first_img Share LocalNews Annual bridal fair carded for August by: – June 18, 2013 Share The second annual Bridal Fair aimed at promoting Dominica as a unique wedding destination has been launched. The event which will be held on Sunday, 11th August at the Windsor Park Stadium follows recent amendment of the Marriage Act. The Marriage Act was amended in 2012 to allow greater flexibility, convenience and expediency of service in acquiring a marriage license.Several businesses including wedding and events planners, caterers, hair stylists, beverage companies, photographers and taxi operators among several others, are expected to participate in the event. Discover Dominica Authority, Caribbean Exquisites, Nature Island Weddings, Bright Light Marketing and Dreamy Weddings have all partnered to make wedding planning in Dominica much easier for both citizens and visitors. The Fair will be organized in booths equipped with information on how one should go about planning a wedding and the processes involved.“When you enter, you start with the customs officers, immigration then if you are coming from a foreign country you would need the Legal Affairs Department because you would need a marriage license, you will need justices of peace so all these will be provided at the booths,” Suanne Allport from the Dominica Bridal Fair Organizing Committee told a press launch on Tuesday 18th June. The Fair will be free of charge to the public, however for wedding planners and other interested people who wish to participate will have to pay $25.00 registration fee and $100.00 for the tent which will be provided.Director of the Discover Dominica Authority Collin Piper said the staging of the bridal fair complements Dominica’s efforts at meeting its target of 90,000 stay over arrivals by 2015. Mr Piper noted that service providers must have their “A game” on, as they will be competing with other wedding destinations in the region, some of which are more advanced. “The romance sector is huge and we want to now participate and compete in the sub-sectors of destination weddings and honey-moons,” he said. Mr Piper also called for wedding and event planners in Dominica to form an association with a view to moving the sector forward. “Our service providers are going to have to get together and I hope that you will utilize the second edition of the bridal fair as an opportunity to form alliances, to form strategic partnerships so that the value proposition that as a destination we put out is second to none,” he said. The guidelines for obtaining a Special Marriage Licence, including a marriage application form and a list of required documents for the granting of a special marriage licence is available on the government’s website www.dominica.gov.dm.Dominica Vibes News Tweetcenter_img Share Sharing is caring! 40 Views   3 commentslast_img read more
