Excellent benefits package.Program AssistantRoma InitiativesOpen Society Institute–Budapest Application Deadline: November 1, 2010BackgroundThe Open Society Foundations are the major nongovernmental supporters of efforts to improve the economic and social inclusion of Roma in Central and South Eastern Europe. Over the last 15 years, the Open Society Foundations’ Roma-related programs have worked on a wide range of issues, including equal access to quality education, women’s empowerment and gender equity, public health, civic and political participation, media access and development of Roma media, promoting tolerance, cultural diversity, and challenging anti-Roma prejudice.The Open Society Foundations are the major supporters of the Decade of Roma Inclusion. Roma Initiatives guides and coordinates all aspects of Open Society Foundations programming and grantmaking activity related to Roma within the framework of the Decade.ResponsibilitiesThe following list of responsibilities is not exhaustive and the post holder may be asked to undertake other duties from time to time as requested by the program director. Working in close cooperation with Roma Initiatives staff, the program assistant shares responsibility for all day to day administrative tasks, processing of grants, and communication with grant applicants and partner organizations.DutiesAll Roma Initiatives related office assistance and administrationCoordination with the relevant OSI administrative unitsProcessing travel and related expenses for all Roma Initiatives staffFiling and archiving, electronic cataloging of all Roma Initiatives filesRegistering all grant applicationsProcessing approved grants and paymentsCommunication with grantees and partner organizationsQualificationsBachelor’s degree, preferably in social sciences.Minimum 2 years of relevant job experience.Flexible, proactive self-starter with problem solving attitude.Diplomatic manner and disposition in interacting with senior management, co-workers, grantees, partners and other contacts.In-depth knowledge of situation of Roma from Central and South Eastern Europe is a strong plus.Excellent Hungarian and English language skills; Knowledge of Romani and/or another language of Central or South Eastern Europe is a plus.Excellent computer skills (expertise with Microsoft Office, Excel, Access and databases) are required.Start Date: ImmediatelyCompensation: Commensurate with experience.
