University of Arizona students asked to minimize holiday travel to stem COVID spread

first_imgwellesenterprises/iStockBy ERIN SCHUMAKER, ABC News(The University of Arizona has reported at least 2,433 COVID-19 infections among students and staff as of Oct. 20, according to university tracking data.U of A said it is testing on-campus students every week in order to identify and quarantine asymptomatic cases. While the high number of infections is concerning, the university’s positivity rate for COVID-19 tests is currently 0.07%, well below the 5% threshold recommended by the World Health Organization. The school also is planning a testing blitz beginning Nov. 9 in order to reduce the risk that students will spread COVID-19 into other communities if they travel during the holidays, President Robert Robbins explained on Monday during a remote briefing he holds weekly for students.Students also will be asked to fill out a survey detailing their travel plans during Thanksgiving break and are encouraged to finish the semester remotely if they leave the Tucson area for Thanksgiving.“Our primary goal is to minimize the impact of student travel on community spread of COVID-19,” Robbins said. There have been more than 233,000 infections and 5,800 deaths in Arizona due to COVID-19, according to the state health department.According to data from The COVID Tracking Project, new cases, testing positivity rate and COVID-19 hospitalizations are on the rise in Arizona. Experts consider deaths from COVID-19 to be a lagging indictor of the outbreak’s severity, meaning they trail behind indicators like daily infections and hospitalizations.Copyright © 2020, ABC Audio. Gattuso Announces Milan Exit

first_imgGennaro Gattuso has announced that he is leaving his position as AC Milan head coach. The 41-year-old is to leave his position at San Siro after Milan narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification this season.Despite beating SPAL 3-2 on the final day of the season, Milan fell just a point short of a top-four spot.Gattuso confirmed he is departing on good terms with Milan, despite the disappointing end to their season.“My decision to leave AC Milan’s bench has not been easy, but I had to make it,” Gattuso told LA Repubblica.“It’s been a hard choice but one I put thought into. I have given up two years left on my contract because my history with this club will never be about money.”A two-time Serie A and Champions League winner with Milan as a player, Gattuso replaced Vincenzo Montella as coach in November 2017.Gattuso oversaw a 10-match unbeaten streak in Serie A this season as Milan threatened to leapfrog rivals Inter into third position. However, a derby defeat in March derailed Milan – who won just five of their remaining 11 games to finish fifth behind Inter and third-place Atalanta.RelatedSamuele PerisanJune 30, 2017Similar post”Scared” Gattuso On The Brink After Napoli Lose 3rd Straight GameJanuary 19, 2020In “Italy”AC Milan Want Fabregas In JanuaryNovember 19, 2018In “Europe”last_img read more

Dragline set for big run

first_imgIAN Parsard’s DRAGLINE hasn’t raced in three months but has exercised fairly well to beat non-winners of an overnight allowance over his favourite course, five-furlong straight, the ninth of 10 races scheduled this afternoon.Facing eight rivals, some of whom have not made the frame in their last three races and are reporting similar in the handicaps, DRAGLINE should use his good record over the straight to outsprint his main rivals – LUNAR ROCKET and DANCING QUEEN.Though LUNAR ROCKET had wired him over five and a half furlongs a year ago, it took her another year to get back to the races, casting doubts on her chances to repeat that feat on her third race back.To her credit, she showed good speed, going seven and a half furlongs last Saturday but had 110lb and was easily tracked by JAMAI RAJA, who had actually left the gate leading and was merely biding time before going through at the three pole.DANCING QUEEN has set the exercise track alight, blazing 1:00.3 from the gate on Monday, the first four furlongs in 46.4. However, she has a habit of giving away her races at the start, which she can ill-afford against a course specialist such as DRAGLINE.Out for the first since finishing down the track behind BILINGUAL, DANCING QUEEN and WONG DON on May 5, DRAGLINE, a half-brother to speedy SIR BUDGET, blew his race by running wide on the turn, and, though rallying in the stretch run, had no chance to recover in an event won in 1:12.3.Lightly raced for a five-year-old, DRAGLINE has only faced the starter on 16 occasions, a clear sign that he is injury-prone, and, possibly, more so when running the bends. However, he tends to run big races out of the straight as he did in his previous event, carrying topweight 126lb and finishing four lengths behind ARMAGEDDON (115lb) in a tight photo for the minors on April 21.With the only other genuine sprinter in horse field being LUNAR ROCKET, reporting 10lb heavier than last Saturday, her second race off a one-year break, her speed could collapse inside the final furlong. At his best, DRAGLINE has proven a better five-straight runner than the horses drawn to his outside – SARAH LEE, KANALOA, CAPTUREMYSHIP, LUCKY STROKE and DANCING QUEEN and LORD EQUUS – Parsard has kept faith with Panamanian Dick Cardenas, who has been aboard DRAGLINE for his last six starts, including consecutive second-place finishes behind LOTTERY TICKET and SIMPLY THE BEST, races won in fast times on the round course.Parsard’s runner showed enough at exercise two Mondays ago, clocking 1:01.1 from the gate, the first four in 47.0, fitted with his regular tongue tie and figure-eight, to suggest that he is well and can return with a bang from off the break.last_img read more
