Our relationship with the United States of America is in a position of uncertainty,” he said, adding that the region’s relationship with the global economy, through its participation in the World Trade Organization (WTO), would also have to be clearly defined by next year.“The Caribbean cannot ask the rest of the world to stop and let us get off. We have to, on our own part and on our own initiative, define how we want to participate with the rest of the world,” Prime Minister Arthur said, as he addressed the joint meeting of the CARICOM Prime Ministerial sub-committee on external trade negotiations and the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) today (Feb. 5) at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Montego Bay.The Barbadian Prime Minister, who along with Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller are co-chairs of the two-day meeting, said that the joint committee would be considering a paper, which sets out a holistic vision as to how the region should be developed, and the framework that should be adopted for the CSME.Meanwhile, Mrs. Simpson Miller, in her address, noted that the conference would provide a practical demonstration of the “capacity and flexibility of the institutional structures to adapt in the effort to achieve a common regional goal”.She noted that the meeting had one agenda, which was to identify the best way to achieve and sustain progress for the Caribbean people.“We are a small region of small countries, blessed with people of great ambitions and big hearts. Our people have always recognized the need to embrace the wider world to our advantage. In order to do that, we need to have shared goals,” she stated.According to Mrs. Simpson Miller, the sub-committee on external negotiations had a responsibility to ensure that the region had the most receptive and fair international environment in which to implement its shared vision and to compete.“It is the access to and the effective use of our collective resources, which will make us internationally competitive as a region,” she stated.CARICOM Secretary General, Edwin Carrington, in his address, noted that the joint meeting was a “visionary initiative most worthy of endorsement and support by all sectors and stakeholders within the Caribbean community”. The two-day conference will consider a report emanating from a meeting of the Caribbean Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) and the CARIFORUM ministerial meeting on strategic issues in external negotiations, which took place on the weekend, among other single market and regional integration issues. Letter: ‘This election year, let’s send a message; vote Democrat down ticket and vote for an end to the corruption that is destroying the GOP’Posted by ClarkCountyToday.comDate: Monday, October 19, 2020in: Letters To The Editor, Opinionshare 0 Camas resident Marie Treadway shares why she has moved away from the Republican partyEditor’s note: Opinions expressed in this letter to the editor are those of the author alone and do not reflect the editorial position of ClarkCountyToday.comMarie Treadway, CamasAs a former Republican, I miss the days when Republicans stood for lower taxes, smaller government, and individual freedom. I moved away from the party as it became clear it had been taken over both by religious zealots intolerant of other religions or opinions as well as corporations preying upon the ingrained fears of rural voters to drum up support for a candidate bought by their own lobbyists. Never has this been more obvious than in recent years with a tax cut that permanently capped corporate tax rates below that of many working families in our area while offering scraps to the rest of us that expire in a few short years. Many households even saw their taxes rise as the financial cost of teens over 16 and dependent adults are no longer acknowledged by the IRS and middle-income single parents were bumped into a higher tax bracket. I don’t always agree with the Democratic platform, but we don’t all need to agree on everything. We need representatives who are honest, real, and who truly care about what happens to us. In addition to voting for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris this election, I’m voting a solid Democrat ticket down ballot this year to send a message to the Republican party that they need to reassess what they stand for. Working parents like me are trying to pay our bills, save for college for our children, pay our taxes, and do everything right, sometimes on little sleep, sometimes with the weight of the world keeping us awake at night. We deserve better than this government that does not care if we sink or swim. If you are a Republican: you deserve better than what your party has given you. If you are a Democrat: you deserve better than this as well. We have local candidates in this area ready to stop our freefall, and one of these is the most genuine person I have ever met. Donna Sinclair, a brilliant woman dedicated to fighting for our region, is running for the State House in the 18th Legislative District. Local campaigns are often overlooked, but it is the grass roots movement of these elections that shape our national elections in the years ahead. Even more important, local elections result in candidates who make decisions affecting our day-to-day lives, like how much we pay in property taxes and how much of it goes to our own school districts. Electing Donna would finally give the 18th a voice in the Democrat-controlled State House after years of Republicans failing to make headway on our behalf. We need a representative who can influence where our taxes go, who isn’t out of touch with our dynamic community that values nature, the constitution, family, and our local economy all at once. Donna Sinclair will truly represent every last one of us and will stand up for us and the needs of Southwest Washington. This election year, let’s send a message. Vote Democrat down ticket and vote for an end to the corruption that is destroying the GOP.Marie Treadway CamasAdvertisementThis is placeholder textTags:CamasClark Countyshare 0 Previous : Letter: ‘Please join me in rejecting R-90 and voting for Vicki Kraft’ Next : Ridgefield school libraries provide Curbside CheckoutAdvertisementThis is placeholder text

These projects will be implemented at a collective cost of $1.8 billion. These projects represent the continued commitment of this administration to improve critical water supplies across the length and breadth of this island,” the Minister said.“This administration cannot afford the luxury of slowing down in the effort to provide Jamaicans with potable water and so in spite of the fiscal constraints the nation faces, the work continues apace,” he added.Meanwhile, the Minister is urging residents to conserve water, as the outlook for rainfall up to December, and for the expected dry season from December through to March, is not positive.Mr. Pickersgill is also imploring persons not to utilize slash and burn techniques when clearing land for farming. “Indeed, our precious water supplies should not be used to extinguish bush fires,” the Minister said.

With this acquisition, we will harness the power of Moore’s Law to make the next generation of solutions not just better, but able to do more.”The deal will couple Intel’s products and manufacturing process with Altera’s field-programmable gate array technology. This is “expected to enable new classes of products that meet customer needs in the data centre and Internet of Things (IoT) market segments”.Altera will become an Intel business unit in order to “facilitate continuity of existing and new customer sales and support”.
